Ronda Parakata
Chicago, IL
La Ronda Parakata is a community space made by local artists Hector Duarte and Alfonso “Piloto” Nieves. The art pieces around the space emulate the monarch butterfly’s migration route, symbolizing the path thousands of Mexicans take yearly.
Partnered with the Field Museum and UIC, Pilsen, community members, and students cut cempasuchil from the UIC campus on October 23.
On Saturday, October 26, they took the flowers in a procession to the Ronda Parakata, where they honored their death as tradition dictates.
